How To Make Recurring Money Online With Resell Hosted Email

Ah! Making money online, it is a red-hot topic. From getting paid to fill out surveys, to promoting CPA (cost per action) type affiliate offers, and selling your own products (like ebooks and how-to video tutorials) to offering copywriting or graphic design services, and continuing with holding seminars, workshops and even running blog networks and membership sites, “making money online” is an evergreen massive niche.

If you do not believe me, just talk with some of your “techie” friends or online contacts. And they will tell you they are involved in a way or another in a money-making “scheme”. Whether it is MLM, network marketing or affiliate programs, people are interested to find a lucrative, extra money-making opportunity, particularly in today’s shaky, unstable Economy.

MLM and network marketing programs are considered higher risk than affiliate programs because first of all, most affiliate programs do not require you pay upfront fees before you can start making money with such. Secondly, with MLM and network marketing program, you get training that somehow requires or suggests you contact your friends and family members. And we both know it is not OK to get out there and sell things to those close to you, right?

With affiliate programs you can work from anywhere in the world, but the most exciting part though is that you have a much wider audience with the Internet; you can promote that particular affiliate product anywhere in the world, unless the program restricts you in a way or another. You can drive traffic (as without human visitors checking out your link/site, nobody will buy or sign-up, correct?) using free or paid methods. Sky’s the limit with associate programs, so the question is how what do you need to start with, right?

First of all, there a few things you need to understand before we move forward.

There are three main types of affiliate/associate programs: those who pay per click like Google AdSense for example; programs that pay per sale like ClickBank, and those who pay per action which are called CPA or PPA offers.

Each has their advantages. For beginners, the easiest way to make money is with AdSense or its alternatives like Chitika. Why is it easy? Because you do not have to get your visitors/referrals do buy things for you, or to sign-up for free/paid offers.

Pro bloggers and super affiliates have no preference over these methods. There are people who make big money with the first, the second and the third. However, not all of them make big money with all three options, meaning you have to focus on just one or two choices and have a blog, site or page that is focused on a single topic or product/offering. The more options you have on the page, the less money you will make on average.

The best type of affiliate programs are those that pay in residual income like AWeber if you promote email autoresponders, or MailQuatro if you want to promote email hosting. Recurring/residual income is amazing, as you get paid each and every month for as long as the customer you bring in stays with that company you referred her to.

People Getting Rich Online – Viral Marketing

As I mentioned in the last entry, I’ve been speaking with people who are making $5000 – $10,000 or more a month online, and I’m beginning to see some common factors.

You have to understand how difficult it is to get people to talk to you about their successes. They remind me of the inventors I’ve spoken to about financing their products — they are deathly afraid that someone will steal their ideas, not realizing that their talent is part of the success of that idea. Sometimes it took several emails, an IM and a lot of promises, but I got people to talk.

One of the factors that struck me very early is the fact that most of the successful people I spoke with use some form of viral marketing in their advertising and marketing plan.

Viral Marketing is a marketing strategy that encourages other people to spread your marketing message, which grows your exposure exponentially. Link exchanges are a good example of viral marketing, because people take the link to your site and put it on theirs. When people link to their sites, they see yours. Then they may take your link and add it to their site. Just for fun I ran the SEOElite backlink checker on a successful web entrepreneur’s site. There were 1498 different sites that had his URL in them. Not bad. Affiiate programs are also viral in nature.

The guru of viral marketing has to be Dr. Ralph Wilson. You should definitely visit his WilsonWeb site. There are many terrific articles there.

These are Dr. Wilson’s six elements of a viral marketing strategy:

1. Give away products or services
2. Provide for effortless transfer to others
3. Scale easily from small to very large
4. Exploit common motivations and behaviors
5. Utilize existing communication networks
6. Leverage the resources of others

Viral Marketing seems to be an integral part of making a lot of money online. It could be as simple as trading a small banner or button for a directory listing (Income: $8000 a month), or offering webmasters a cut of your earnings to get them to your website to view your content and then buy (Income: $4000 a month). In fact, doesn’t that second business model describe Chitika, the ill-fated PPC network?

Multiple tier affiliate programs, where you get a cut of the income from people you get to sign up, are other examples of viral marketing.

You don’t have to do anything quite as dramatic, but I think it would be a smart idea to come up with some viral marketing elements for your own web site. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Write articles and get them posted on free article sites. Make the content compelling and the title provocative and interesting. Make sure at least one link appears in the article.

2. Install a ‘email this page to a friend’ script or plugin. There are plenty of them out there on the Internet.

3. Come up with a free product, utility or service that will promote your business, and encourage people to distribute it. Even if you have to pay for one to be made, it will be worth it.

4. Write for free on a well-known site in your area of expertise, especially one with a newsletter or free article distribution. This is a terrific way to perpetuate your site virally.

5. Put together an affiliate program that gets your banner on websites. If you have a unique utility, service or information source, you can get webmasters to put up a small box, banner or chicklet that has a link to your site.

Viral marketing can make you rich…I’ve seen the examples. The reason is simple…you are giving people something for free that they perceive as valuable, and they are telling other people how smart they are for getting something for free. In order to tell other people they have to mention you. It’s brilliant.

ExitJunction is the newest way how you can make money online. ExitJunction works in a brilliant way. Now, if you have visitors coming from search engines, ExitJunction will work for you.

The publisher will get higher click-through-rate and hence better earning and advertiser will only have visitors that are genuinely interested in their product clicking their advertisement.

You get other benefits of using the program. Your visitors will not find the program intrusive. When they hit the back button, they are brought to a page of related sponsored listing, which they may even thank you for. They could also thought that the service is provided by the search engines.

Using the program does not reduce your earning at all. ExitJunction targets the remaining visitors that have not clicked on your advertisement but instead hit the Back button to exit from your site. Chitika Means Big Cash For Publishers

There are hundreds of thousands of websites on the Internet that are missing out on big money. With the emergence of the new Chitika eMiniMalls advertising company, these websites could be bringing in hundreds of dollars a day, and they don’t even know it. For years people have built websites around their passions, whether is was Mustang Cobras or food processors. These websites existed solely because the person that created them had a passion for that subject. With the introduction of Chitika, these websites now have an opportunity to finally cash in from all of the selfless hard work that has been put into them. If they’ve been around a while, they most likely have a decent amount of backlinks and indexed pages, which equates to more traffic. Publishers shouldn’t waste any longer registering at Chitika eMiniMalls (chitika.com). While waiting for approval, these publishers should visit publisher forums and learn as much as possible about ad placement, colors and how to select their products. Of course, if their website is all about coffee cups, they’d be best off selecting items that relate to coffee cups! But they should also be willing to think outside of the box a little. Items such as coffee grinders, decorative spoons and even coffee makers could be potential money makers. Once they are approved, they should waste no time getting their ads onto their sites. If they’ve used a good blogging program or other CMS-type program, getting the ads to replicate throughout all the currently existing pages shouldn’t be too much of a hassle. If you’ve been publishing a website for a few years about a product or subject that you’re passionate about, but you aren’t making anything off of it, it’s time for you to check out Chitika! An article by Matt DeAngelis with 1345 words and 670 views All I have to say is WOW. I haven’t seen this kind of vitriol since the last Democratic Convention, and all directed toward Chitika, a startup ad company that was supposed to be the Google killer. Their crime? Cutting people’s revenue checks after they’ve earned the money. Not a great PR move. And it looks like there are more problems with what, on the surface, looks like a great idea. I have to admit I don’t understand how anyone (including Chitika) makes any money with their revenue model. Darren Rouse of problogger.net, who I respect immensely (and who makes a couple hundred grand a year blogging), has really flogged the heck out of Chitika. Right from the start I had trouble understanding how they were going to make any money. Chitika Mini Malls allow you to sell specific products (merchandise) within the pages of your website or blog. The ads boast the best price for a specific product, and then allow the user to click to (supposedly) buy the product. They also include tabs for search and other functionality built right into the banner-like ad. Publishers can choose to show ads by keyword (they pick the words), or by page context like Google (having both ads in contextual mode on your site violates Google’s terms of service). Apparently Chitika has deals with companies like Shopping.com, Ubid and others to share in clickthroughs. Or they may just go through channeladvisor.com, a syndicator of content for the major shopping sites (which explains why they all have the same content). From my comfortable chair I can see where the trouble begins. When someone comes to Shopping.com they’re looking for something, whether it is duck boots from L.L. Bean or a battery charger from Sears, and they’re looking for the best price, presumably so they can buy the product (it’s not called just looking around.com. It’s shopping.com. So Bean or Sears doesn’t mind paying Shopping.com fifteen cents or a quarter or whatever to get the person to press the buy button, because they know the person is ready to put down the credit card number. I’m not sure moving that model out to my web site is going to pay off in a pay-per-click model. Back when we did CASIE-award winning (5 awards actually) campaigns for John Hancock, the goal was to capture someone having a specific life event such as having a baby, marriage, graduation, etc., and get them to Hancock. The presumption was that they would be ready to buy. Chances are if they saw a banner that said Ready to tie the knot? Are you covered? or some such thing and they clicked, they were ready to buy, and it would have been worth paying for the click. Shopping.com is similar. If you’re there, the life event is a new TV (not quite as profound as marriage, but important just the same). I’m not sure how much a click on the Best price for a TV MiniMall ad by someone who is not ready to buy a TV is actually worth. Remember, they haven’t come to Shopping.com. Shopping.com has come to them. Keeping that in mind (the value of a click from my site vs. the value of a click from the Shopping.com site), all of the controversy makes perfect sense. Let’s start with the auditing fiasco. They told a bunch of publishers how much oney they made from people clicking on the ads, then decided to take back some of it. They claimed to be taking back money from clicks from countries where the products couldn’t be shipped and accounting for click fraud. While this is annoying, I can understand it, though I’m not quite sure how they could examine every click and figure this stuff out, especially when rumor has it the system isn’t exactly a technological powerhouse. In fact, according to Shoemoney.com, the technology is a PHP ripoff. So they threw out a few clicks, right. Big deal. But here’s where Chitika crossed the Rubicon as far as I’m concerned — they decided that they were going to filter out what they called curiosity clicks, which they loosely defined as clicks that are not likely to result in a sale. Wait a minute here…no one said anything about sales. As I mention in my previous article about Pay-per-click advertising, the publishers responsibility in the pay-per-click model is to get the user to click. The rest of the chain is then out of the publisher’s hands. Chitika has basically created its own model here, and I call it Pay-per-selected-click. They are, in effect, deciding that some clicks are more valuable than others. Specifically they are saying that clicks resulting in sales are better than clicks not resulting in sales. Viola! They have invented Pay-per-Sale (or Pay-per-Action for those semanticists in the audience). Other people call it BS. Actually so do I. I think it is dishonest to tell publishers that you will pay them for every click and then decide which clicks to pay for. That’s like telling the lottery agent that you’ll buy the tickets now for $1 each, but you’re coming back after the drawing to return the ones that didn’t win for your dollar back. Put another way, if you’re giving away 70% of what you earn (60% to the publisher and 10% to his referring publishers), you can’t be throwing around dollar bills. And if your model is stupid (which this one clearly is), you need to pull some hocus-pocus man-behind-the-curtain give-with-one-hand-and-take-away-with-the-other kind of magic. The most amusing part of this has to be picturing the look on the marketing weenie’s faces at L.L. Bean and Sears when the bill for a million clicks comes in and they find that they made four sales. The bottom line here is that in this context (selling someone merchandise) a click from Shopping.com has more value than a click from Bobsblog.com. Chitika turned me down for an account. They said that I didn’t meet the qualifications. Darren Rouse says that web sites that are product centered. Chitika says the same thing. This proves my point even more. If a website is product centered (in other words reviews computers or exhalts the virtues of a Palm Pilot), then the fact that you are on that site means you have some interest in the product. Your Chitika MiniMall is the Buy It Now for that product. This means that there won’t be as many curiosity clicks, and Chitika won’t take as much of your earnings back. You are getting subjected to Pay-Per-Action criteria with Pay-Per-Click rewards. If you want to see how publishers are reacting to this, you might want to Google Chitika sucks, or look up one of the anti-Chitika web sites like Shitika.com. Jensense also has a nice synopsis you might want to take a look at. Without looking I’m going to guess that the angry people are the ones furthest from Shopping.com in content and model, and the ones who had the least taken off their earnings are more product centered (whatever the hell that means). Chitika claims to be The Leader in Impulse Merchandising. Their model puts a different spin on the word context. For their ads to work, you have to be predisposed toward purchasing the product on one of their banners, and the theme of the site on which the ad appears is the actual context of the ad, not the keywords you supply or context Chitika uses to choose the banner. I’d replace Chitika with a Pay-Per-Action ad that fits the theme of your site. If you’re lazy stick with them, at least until they either change the model so they make more money or go out of business. At this point I’m not sure which one to bet on. Differences Between Chitika And Adsense Affiliate Programs

You’ve heard about Chitika but need to get a feel for how it differs from AdSense and whether it’ll be of use to you in making more money from your site. We attempt to outline the main differences between these two major affiliate programs.

The Differences

Age of the program: AdSense has been around for a few years now but Chitika is only a few months old. In fact, despite all the news and buzz, it’s still in beta.

User Base: Having been around for a long time, AdSense is the grandfather of contextual advertising and has the largest base of publishers competing for the ads it serves. Chitika has only a few publishers so far but is likely to grow fast especially as it has a referral program paying 10% commissions.

Appearance: AdSense ads are primarily text ads that fit into about 10 standard sizes from 728×90 to 120×600, 468×60 and others. There are a limited number of image ads created by advertisers and pre-approved by Google. When an image ad runs it tends to fill the whole ad block. Chitika ads come in the same standard sizes but every single ad space is filled with a hybrid of text and image but, crucially, promoting just one product from one advertiser. Further, one consistent feature across the Chitika ads is the interactivity. Each ad has a selection of tabs which change the content of the ad block when a visitor hovers over them. The tabs provide information like “Best Deals” where prices for that product are compared across different sources, “Reviews”, and even a “Search” box that allows your visitors to search for and get results for similar products without them having to leave your page.

Terms of Service: AdSense has a fairly restrictive set of terms that you have to agree to. They’ve been modified numerous times and when fine tuned are made more rather than less restrictive. Among the things publishers are not allowed to do are to change the AdSense code, specify keywords that ads should be targeted to, and have more than three blocks of ads on a page. None of those apply to the Chitika program. There are other AdSense specific rules that don’t apply to Chitika.

Features: AdSense has added several features over the last 2-3 years. They include channels – a way of identifying which pages are better earners. It’s not perfect and isn’t anywhere near as efficient as a click tracker program but it’s more than what Chitika have; though they are planning a channels feature soon. AdSense also provides better stats data (and analysis), AdLinks and other minor improvements. Chitika, on the other hand, has some interesting features we’ve never seen in Adsense. They include targeting a particular product or advertiser in an ad block so it always shows the same product/advertiser, rotating keywords per refresh or by the day of the week, changing the font and colour of the text in the ad (Adsense offers only colour change, not font and font size), enabling and disabling contextual serving of ads, enabling and disabling the search function within ads, and a lot more.

Contextual serving:Adsense serves ads based on the context of the page. Chitika does the same but has the option of turning context off. Webmasters can choose to either run it in contextual mode or specify the keywords/products they want the ads targeted to. Note: When running Chitika on the same page as AdSense ads you need to turn the Chitika contextual engine off to stay within AdSense terms and conditions.

Referral program: AdSense has a new referral program that pays you $100 if you refer someone who signs up as a publisher provided that referral earns $100. Chitika pays a flat 10% of what your referral earns and pays that for a period of twelve months from the date of signup.

Earnings: Which pays more? It depends. Chitika can pay very well but it takes a slightly different mindset to what you may have become accustomed to with Adsense. If you have the patience to learn about it Chitika could prove very profitable particularly if you combine it with Adsense. Our sites tells you how to run them both safely on the same page without violating the legal agreements.

This isn’t an exhaustive comparison of their very detailed legal terms of service but we hope we’ve whetted your appetite to find out more about Chitika.

The author’s website presents an extensive review of the Chitika program, and offers revenue enhancing ideas particularly in relation to using Chitika together with Adsense and staying within the legal agreements for both. For those webmasters dissatisfied with Adsense there are some very good reasons to make a complete switch.

All I have to say is WOW.

Other people call it bullshit.

Chitika is compatible with Google AdSense: If you are already using Google AdSense on your blog and website to generate income with it, you can also try Chitika with it as it’s compatible with Google AdSense policy. It will neither affect your existing AdSense earnings not break any AdSense policy that can put risk on your AdSense account.

Whitespace Ad units:

I like this ad unit most. This Chitika premium ad unit is specially designed to display ads in white space ads that your visitors see in their wide screen monitors. It means, if for wider screen monitors, there is blank space between the edges of your website content and the borders of your browser, the ads will displayed will stick to the screen when your visitor will scroll up and down to the page.
